BLUFFTON

What makes Bluffton so loveable? As the saying goes, we may be greater than the sum of our parts, but all of our parts are all pretty incredible on their own. Beautiful art, interesting culture, and fascinating history. Rich natural beauty, meandering waterways, and pretty parks. A full calendar of events, delicious culinary experiences, and brimming with Southern charm. The Town of Bluffton is a well-kept secret. But now that you know about us, we know you’re going to want to come and stay awhile.

The Town of Bluffton is located in Beaufort County, the southernmost coastal county in South Carolina. It is situated on a high bluff overlooking the May River, a pristine waterway that has strongly contributed to the Town's history and continued success. Bluffton is located just 12 miles west of Hilton Head Island, SC and approximately 20 miles northeast of Savannah, GA. It is also easily accessible from Intrastate Highways 46, 170, & 278 and Interstate 95. A Lowcountry town established in 1825, Bluffton, South Carolina is home to fine dining, rich Gullah history and local shopping. Kayaking, paddle boarding and dolphin tours on the May River are popular activities common among Bluffton visitors.

Bluffton recently expanded its territory by 32,000 acres through annexation of primarily four tracts of undeveloped land, becoming the fifth largest town in South Carolina (by land area). The Palmetto Bluff area of Bluffton was one of these four tracts. It is now home to a community of charming homes, a beautiful traditional style chapel and a luxury hotel, the Palmetto Bluff Inn, all of which overlook the May River. The Bluffton Historic Arts & Seafood Festival in October and the Bluffton Farmer’s Market every Thursday on Calhoun Street are staple events in Bluffton’s lively downtown area. Every Thursday, visitors and locals flood Calhoun Street for live music, friendly vendors and locally grown produce & food. The smell of barbeque wafting through the air is enough to draw visitors from miles away. Incredible art galleries, fascinating museums and locally owned original shops are what characterize Bluffton as a delightful family destination. Those that call the town home refer to Bluffton as “A State of Mind.”
